CK Rail Solutions Ltd. is a multidisciplinary engineering company that operates mainly in the Rail industry. The organisation specialises in Civil engineering, Construction, Design management, railway electrification and vegetation management services.

In 2020, CK Rail Solutions Ltd operated as a second-tier supplier to Network rail. The company made the strategic decision to improve their business process model, expand their services and operations and increase their market share in the UK Rail sector within 12-24 months.

Customer Requirements

The company determined that they need a management system that enhances day to day operations, it is easy to use and is compliant to all ISO and Network Rail Standards.

The main requirements were defined as follows:

  • To enable the successful delivery of Projects, regardless of size, complexity and value, that ensures consistent quality output with each engagement.

  • Achieves compliance and certification to ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 by end of 2020

  • Utilises the Principal Contractor requirements as a benchmark.

  • To enhance the supply chain network, relationship and contract management

  • To design a Project Performance Management framework

Introducing

3 new key requirements

The global pandemic presented an additional challenge and introduced 3 new key requirements:

  • The Integrated Management processes and tools had to be available online, enable remote working, uninterrupted communications across multiple sites and streamlined operations at all business levels.

  • CK Rail Solutions Ltd. staff had to quickly become competent and capable in operating an online management system that introduced new processes and method of work, new tools and applications to manage more complex data and information in a timely manner

  • The entire engagement between tQM Professionals and CK Rail was performed remotely and had to overcome multiple challenges

Engagement Outputs:

Within the first 6 months of our engagement, we had successfully designed, developed and implemented  the CK Rail Integrated Management System that achieved and surpassed the customer expectations with the following results:

  • Developed and implemented the CK Project Delivery Lifecycle Model that is designed to adhere to the principles of PRINCE 2 and industry best practices

  • Re-designed the business Operating Model to assure sustainable service delivery and enhanced performance output

  • Developed systems, information and data analysis tools, and applications to allow staff in multiple locations and on the construction sites to share and upload documents, information and data in a safe and timely manner

  • A Performance Management framework that combines processes, data analysis tools and reporting.

  • Achieved certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 by Lloyds.

  • Achieved qualification to all RISQS modules.

  • Contributed to the development and delivery of the CK Business Strategy.

  • Developed and delivered training of the new Integrated Management System.

  • Re-designed the operations model to ensure communication and seamless information flow between the project operations and the support business functions.

Customer Benefits:

tQM Professional consultants worked tirelessly with CK Rail employees at all levels to realise the company's strategic targets.

  • By July 2021 CK Rail Solutions Ltd became a Principal Contractor for Network Rail, with the opportunity to bid for framework agreements worth hundreds of millions (GBP)

  • An estimated 120% growth in turnover and new business

  • Expansion to other sectors and services (e.g. De-vegetation frameworks for UK Councils and Counties)

Our engagement with CK Rail Ltd. is continued within 2021 as a key partner to assist the business to expand their operations, increase their process maturity levels and optimise the CK IMS through process Transformation and Process Automation projects.
